Pale is better

Most of my young adult life I've been a sun nut, LOVED being tan, and laying out. When my tan faded I felt the ugly come on. Sunny vacations were chances for me to get as tan as physically possible. I never wore sunscreen to maximize my tan. I went tanning for gods sake! And after all the sun damage, pale has made it's long over due comeback! Hoorayyyy!

Tans are looking a bit trashy these days, no? So Cougartown, dirty and stripper pole. Avoid them at all costs. They age you. They disgrace you.

A little healthy glow is still okay in summer months and on vacations, but dark tans and extended sun bathing are giant no nos.

Check out all the celebs sporting beautiful Brenda/Kelly Beverly Hills: 90210 skin. It's a wonderful thing!!

Think Madmen. Think bold lipstick colors. Embrace light pink blushes to compliment that milky feminine complexion. Pale goes best with a full brow. Wear floral prints and cropped shirts. And now you can finally utilize adorable wide brimmed sun hats at the pool!

Best of all - pale skin is better for you!

What have I got to loose at this point...a re-run of Dallas and a pint of icecream?

Some good conversation pieces include:

Hey Blogger, WTF??

So my mother is a political mastermind and has her own blog. It recently came to my attention that, last February, she posted a thoughtful entry about a controversial subject and was unfairly censored. Her entry wasn't hateful. Her comments were just common sense thoughts on a current event. I mean come onnnnnnnn.

Isn't it our right as bloggers to respectfully speak our minds?? Isn't that the point of having a blog? This is so disgusting and disheartening. Blogger didn't even give her an explanation as to why her entry was removed. My faithful mother has a right to blog about current events whether you agree with her or not. I don't appreciate the orwellian twist of deleting her harmless blog posting. Her comments were no more dangerous than the ramblings of John Stewart on the Daily Show.

F U blogger censorship. I want my America back.

Saturday Looks Good To Me

Saturday Looks Good to Me sounds good to me.  This bad is a refreshing taste of the 1950s and has a clear crisp sound.  Listen to Hiding off of the album Sound on Sound and get ready to boogie.

Padma Lakshmi - 97% There

There is no question that Padma Lakshmi is one of the most beautiful unique womyn in media at this time. I respect the role she plays in the culinary world and love that she can poke fun of herself on 30 Rock.  What bothers me about her is two fold...one superficial and one as a role model.

Let's be shallow first. W.T.F is up with her mind blowing style this season.  On tonight's episode the pregnant Lakshmi wore a black dress that had cut outs in the arms and at the collar bone.. but this is not surprising.  This entire season Padma has been disappointing me with her wardrobe selection.  She's teetering on desperation on an almost weekly basis.  News flash Padma...you're gorgeous, successful, and have no taste.  Please, PLEASE set a better example for the nation's youths and class it up a bit.  No more cut outs, mock turtlenecks or velor.  You have every advantage and are classy on every other level...now let's just apply it to your wardrobe.

My second not so shallow concern is the amount of scandalous photos there are of Padma floating around.  I get it, you need to build your brand and that sells, however you're on a different circut.  How about treating yourself with a little more respect then you nude licking chocolate off of a spoon?  Listen Padma, I'm saying all this because I believe in you.  You don't need to sell out to keep your brand alive.  The beauty and intelligence you process was enough to get people interested in you.  Don't go this route.

I worship Jackie Taylor

Okay, let's face it Beverly Hills, 90210 is the best show of all time. It just is. No ifs, ands, or buts. It's a fact. Don't attempt to dispute it. Moving on...

I'm wavering between moderately to majorly upset that Jackie Taylor passed on due to cancer in this week's 90210. There was so much more to explore with Jackie's character, but I take solace in the fact that Jackie is now safe and unaltered by the new writers from her original glory. Back in the golden age of the series her wardrobe was dope. Jackie was and is extremely aesthetically pleasing. Super matchy matchy just how a womyn with that much self-respect ought to dress. Her hair, California blonde and perfectly quaffed. Her bathing suits? Her clip on earrings?? I mean come on. So put together. So much pizazz. She defied her age and did what ever she wanted. Rightly put herself above all others. Everything she was I respect: married several times, former model, alcoholic, coke habit, rehab survivor and not to mention the most spectacular MC at the West Beverly mother daughter fashion show ever. Let's be honest, did Jackie ever utter a word that wasn't true?

Aside from the character's total awesomeness, Ann Gillespi, who played her, was an outstanding actress. I don't believe she ever got her due credit for making Jackie's character bigger than life. She took that show to another level. Ann Gillespi, wherever you are... you rock the tree tops! You really do. I freaking adore you. You lived and breathed Jackie Taylor and for that I applaud you. Job well done! Bravo!

Here is some of her best work : part 1 part 2

Here's a fun little montage of mother daughter footage to a tune of Taylor Swift.

Word to St. Vincent

So I'm not going sit here and write about how my world was shaken by this really cool artist, St. Vincent (even though it was). I'm also not going to try to be deep and blog about how lead singer and guitarist Annie Clark's fresh attitude and music are inspiring me (even though she totally is). I refuse to be like this is completely filling a void on my ipod that I didn't even know was there (even though it has.)

I'm just really sick of people being like "listen to this it's really sweet" (even if it is). Or "check them out, you'd love them" (even if I would). It's like okay, you're cool. You know all the "trendy" and "indie" music and you can't shut the hell up about it by keeping it to yourself for your own personal enjoyment. It's so obnoxious. Like just let me discover my own freaking music, ya know?

Don't you just hate those people?

If you don't (even though I do), then... LISTEN HERE and HERE and HERE.
